Understanding high polluted events in a tropical megacity with air quality observations and ERA5-reanalysis data

چکیده

Already published studies found that 20% of the atmospheric pollution variations are linked to local meteorology. This relationship may be more important in places with dense populations such as Latin American cities since topography and fast multiscale changes part tropical climate. Even so, this possibility has not been addressed previous studies. research aims characterize between climate variables PM2.5 levels during high events. The wind field, Turbulent Kinetic Energy (TKE), radiation, temperature, relative humidity, boundary layer height, stability concentration was investigated. Statistical correlations parcel method were used analyze vertical motions PM2.5. Obtained results show stability, velocity, height do significantly affect levels. We identified some signals strongly related concentrations: weaker than average horizontal speed TKE throughout day, easterly winds morning (associated transport ashes from wildfires produced on Eastern plains), combined a higher radiation peak. These lead better understanding variations, which can applied for improvement air quality models have potential novel policy manage risk.

A comparative study of quantitative mapping methods for bias correction of ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data

This study evaluates the ability of different quantitative mapping (QM) methods as a bias correction technique for ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data. Climate type and geographical location can affect the performance of the bias correction method due to differences in precipitation characteristics. For this purpose, ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data for the years 1989-2019 for 10 selected syno...

How Well are Tropical Cyclones Represented in Reanalysis Data Sets?

Tropical cyclones (TCs) are identified and tracked in six recent reanalysis data sets and compared with those from the IBTrACS best track archive. Results indicate that nearly every cyclone present in IBTrACS over the period 1979-2012 can be found in all six reanalyses using a tracking and matching approach. However, TC intensities are significantly under-represented in the reanalyses compared ...

Simulating the fine and coarse inorganic particulate matter concentrations in a polluted Megacity

A three dimensional chemical transport model (PMCAMx) is applied to the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) in order to simulate the chemical composition and mass of the major PM1 (fine) and PM1-10 (coarse) inorganic components and determine the effect of mineral dust on their formation. The aerosol thermodynamic model ISORROPIA-II is used to explicitly simulate the effect of Ca, Mg, and K fro...
